What is the Roshan Digital Account?

The Roshan Digital Account is a digital onboarding programme launched by the State Bank of Pakistan in September 2020 that lets overseas Pakistanis and Pakistan-origin individuals open a Pakistani bank account fully online, without ever visiting a branch. As of 2026 the programme has attracted more than 8 billion US dollars in cumulative inflows from over 175 countries, making it the single largest formal-channel diaspora banking initiative in South Asia.

RDA was created to do two things at the same time. The first goal was to give the diaspora a clean, regulated route back into the Pakistani financial system. The second was to redirect informal remittance flows (hawala, hundi, money mules) into the banking channel where State Bank rules apply and anti-money-laundering checks happen automatically.

Who can open a Roshan Digital Account?

You are eligible for an Allied Bank RDA if you hold a valid Pakistani CNIC, NICOP or POC, regardless of which country you currently live in. The State Bank's regulatory framework recognises three eligible groups: non-resident Pakistani nationals, Pakistan-origin foreign nationals holding a Pakistan Origin Card (POC), and resident Pakistanis with declared foreign-source income.

The eligibility test is straightforward in practice. If you have any one of the three identity documents above and are physically resident outside Pakistan when you apply, you qualify. Pakistan-origin individuals (former nationals who have taken citizenship abroad) qualify even without a current Pakistani passport, using their POC.

Documents you will need

  • A clear scan of your CNIC or NICOP (both sides), or your POC plus a foreign passport.
  • Live/digital photo via webcam
  • Proof of non-resident status
  • Proof of profession and source of income/funds (e.g., job certificate, salary slips, rental agreement, or other applicable income proof)
  • Signature scanned on plain white pape

Allied Bank currently accepts RDA applications from more than 175 countries. If you live in a jurisdiction that is on the Financial Action Task Force grey or black list, expect additional documentation requirements and a longer verification window.
