Day 1 Highlights – July 17, 2024
The ABL K2 Expedition Team – 2024 departed from Lahore on July 16, 2024. After an overnight stay in Islamabad, they reached Skardu by air on July 17. In Skardu, the team met with the Army Commander and presented a souvenir in recognition of local support. The team is now traveling to Askole by jeep—marking the beginning of their high-altitude journey.
We honor their passion, dedication, and commitment to raising awareness about climate change and environmental conservation. Their perseverance serves as an inspiration for a more sustainable future.
Day 2 Highlights – July 18, 2024
The team reached Askole, the last inhabited settlement before entering the Karakoram wilderness. A seven-hour scenic jeep ride from Skardu brought them closer to their dream. While en route, they engaged with the local community, raising awareness about climate responsibility and cleanliness.
They have now procured fresh supplies and are preparing for their trek to Jhola. Spirits are high, and the team remains focused on their mission to promote eco-conscious trekking.
Day 3–5 Highlights – July 19–21, 2024
The team successfully trekked to Jhola and Paju, enduring demanding terrain and weather. Despite physical exhaustion, morale remains strong due to shared motivation and unity.
A rest day at Paju allowed recovery and preparation for their next target: Khoborste/Hoborse. Throughout their journey, the team has actively spread awareness about climate change impacts in mountainous regions, emphasizing Allied Bank’s commitment to sustainability.
Day 6 Highlights – July 23, 2024
The team reached Urdukas, crossing two glaciers—a major achievement requiring immense resilience. Now at 4,200m elevation and having covered 196 km, their next milestone is Goro II (12 km ahead, at 4,300m).
The team’s enthusiasm and discipline exemplify the human spirit’s power to endure and inspire—especially in pursuit of environmental consciousness.
Day 7 Highlights – July 24, 2024
The expedition reached Goro II at 4,300m after covering 208 km from Skardu. Despite the altitude and harsh landscape, they remain united and energized.
Their next destination is Concordia (11 km away), a pivotal point on their journey to the K2 Base Camp. Every step they take highlights the importance of sustainable travel and climate action.
Day 8 Highlights – July 25, 2024
The team reached Concordia (4,650m), having covered 219 km from Skardu. They are now just 11 km away from their final goal—the K2 Base Camp (5,150m elevation).
This moment of anticipation also reflects purpose: they are preparing for a cleanliness drive, intending to collect 1,200 kg of waste, and a climate change awareness session. Their actions continue to inspire responsible exploration and conservation.
Day 10 Highlights – July 27, 2024
On July 26, the team reached the K2 Base Camp, proudly hoisting ABL’s flag at 5,150m. They traveled on foot for 8 days, covering 125 km across glaciers, valleys, and peaks.
They conducted a sustainability workshop and completed the clean-up initiative, collecting over 1,200 kg of waste—a remarkable step toward preserving this iconic natural landmark.
We commend their achievement and mission to amplify climate awareness at high altitudes.
Return Journey – July 31, 2024
After reaching their goal, the team began their descent on July 28. Despite difficult conditions—flooding and landslides—they returned safely to Skardu on July 31.
Their remarkable feat not only marks a successful expedition but also highlights Allied Bank’s commitment to social responsibility, green practices, and support for climate advocacy. We proudly welcome our heroes back.
